North West Mediation Group
Dear colleagues, in October 2009 a number of universities from the North West took part in a 1 day mediation conference. The primary aim was to establish a development network to support continual CPD for mediation skills with a secondary purpose, to evaluate the possibility of creating a North West Mediation group, not only supporting CPD but offering a cross institutional mediation service. Both objectives were agreed upon and the work has continued since.
The outcomes of the initial conference was the establishment of the North West Mediator Steering Group who have met three times since the conference in October 2009. The purpose of the smaller steering group was to work on and agree terms of reference for cross institutional mediation work. Both 'Terms of Reference' and a 'Service Level Agreement' for cross institutional mediation have now been agreed and will be circulated for information on the North West Weeble site, nwsdg.weebly.com/
Following the success of the initial 1 day conference a further CPD event was held in Liverpool John Moores in November 2010. The event once again created useful opportunities to network with other universities and learn from key note speakers on the world of mediation beyond HEI. Current universities engaged in this group are Liverpool John Moores, Chester, UCLan, Cumbria, Manchester, Lancaster and Liverpool Hope University.
We circulate information about our network at every opportunity we can and regularly hear from new colleagues who had wished they'd known about us. Therefore, the purpose of this email is to widen our circulation and offer an open invitation to those who might be interested to contact Wilma Butterworth, UCLan - [email protected] for further information. The North West Mediation Group are keen to open up the membership of this group to maximise the pool of knowledge, skills and information. If you are interested and would like to engage in our activities then please do drop us a line.

The North West Staff Developers Group hosts an annual retreat for its members. This has taken place in January in the Lake District for the past four years.
The purpose is to allow members to take time out to reflect on the outcomes of the previous year, share knowledge and experience and practice new developments and techniques with like minded colleagues who can offer constructive criticism and developmental support.
